Every Mission Vision clinic is only possible thanks to the work of our incredible volunteers
Our clinics are made possible by the volunteers who staff them. Our services are free to those that we care for and we are thankful for our staff who give their valuable time to enable us to serve in the capacity that we do. Among our staff, we enlist the help of optometrists and eye care professionals alike. Young or old, we need your help. Be the hands and feet of this organization by giving your personal time any way possible.
You don’t need to be an eye care professional to get involved. We train you so that you can be effective in the field and serve our patients well. For many of our new volunteers, they realize over time that through serving those in need, they are being blessed from the experience of serving and seeing the change they can make in the life of someone in need.
It takes at least 4 professional volunteers and 2 laypersons to staff a free vision clinic:
1 Optometrist or Ophthalmologist:
Provides an eye health exam & refraction for glasses.
1 Technician:
Completes preliminary testing, preparing patients to see the doctor.
2 Opticians:
Helps patients select appropriate frame; fits frame & takes measurements.
1 Patient Coordinator:
Checks patients in to the clinic & manages patient flow.
1 Phone Coordinator:
Communicates with school nurses and clients.
If you are (or if you know) an experienced eye care professional in the Western Pennsylvania tri-state region who wants to serve in a local, one day mission trip, PLEASE click the “Contact Us” button and ask for our “ECP Information packet”
Contact us and ask about bringing a small team to one of our “work parties.” These events are scheduled as needed to process and prepare gently used eyeglass donations for international missions. Even if you have no previous hands-on experience working with eyeglasses, we will train you on how to sort, bench adjust, check eyeglass prescriptions, and perform minor repairs on glasses. These events are typically scheduled on Saturdays, and normally run 9am – 2pm.
We train willing volunteers to become overseas missionaries. If you feel called to serve and want to do so internationally, we can help you do that. We have a passion for individuals overseas, and it shows! With over 40 years of experience serving people across oceans and borders, we truly have a heart for those far from home. We have developed a comprehensive training program that we have used to train willing volunteers to take our work and our mission of hope across the globe. This training involves one on one training with not only eye doctors, but ones who have personal experience in administering the exams. You will learn how to perform medical eye exams, how to interact with people from a different culture, how to use the medical equipment, and how to be effective volunteers to those in need. If you feel called to become a volunteer for one of these global missions, click the button below to learn more and see how you can get involved.
